Traveling museum on Bush years to stop downtown

A museum on wheels dedicated to the legacy, such that it is, of the George W. Bush years will be in Waynesboro on Friday.

The Bush Legacy Bus will make a stop at the Democratic Committee Election Headquarters in Willow Oak Plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 45-foot, 28-ton bus features several interactive exhibits providing information on the failed policies of the Bush administration and its allies in Congress.

The Washington, D.C.,-based progressive advocacy group Americans United for Change has taken the traveling museum on a 40-state, 20,000-mile journey across the United States since it left the nation’s capital on June 24.

Election Day logistics

We had a good committee meeting on Monday night to begin our planning for Election Day.

Whew! And some people think all you do is vote and then have a big party at the end of the day!

Here’s what we’re working on …

- Election Day at HQ: We need volunteers to staff the Willow Oak HQ on Election Day from 6 a.m. (when the polls open) through the close of the polls at 7 p.m. Janis Owen is heading up the HQ committee. If you want to volunteer, contact her at 447-0177 or janisowen@msn.com.

- Poll Workers: We’re going to need to place volunteers at the polls in Waynesboro in three-hour shifts beginning at 6 a.m. The day is 13 hours long, so we may have some overlap. Coni Constantine is heading up the Poll Workers committeee. If you want to volunteer, contact Coni at 292-3353 or conic@gamefacefitness.com.

- Driver Dispatch: Jennifer Tsakis is chairing our Driver Dispatch committee and will serve as our Election Day dispatcher to coordinate the efforts of our volunteer drivers to get voters who need a ride to the polls to their stated destination. - Logistics: A nice neutral-sounding name for what Chris Graham and Chris Harman are putting together to place signs and popup tents at the polling precincts around town. We need one more 4×4 Obama-Warner-Rasoul sign and three more popup tents to meet our quotas. - The Election Night Party: Sara Christopherson is in charge of the details of our catered shindig on Election Night at the Willow Oak HQ. We’re tentatively planning a catered food and cash-bar event. The minutiae are being worked out there as we speak. Barack the vote in Waynesboro

Door-to-door canvassing and phone bank help needed now!

The Obama-Biden campaign has identified 25,000 likely Democratic voters in Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County – and the job now is to knock on their doors and call them on the phone to make sure that they get out to vote.

Obama-Biden canvasses will be meeting at the Waynesboro Democratic Committee Election Headquarters weeknights beginning this week. Saturday teams will meet at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday teams will meet at noon and 3 p.m. Weeknight teams will meet at 4 p.m. each night.

The Obama-Biden campaign is also conducting a phone bank out of its Staunton headquarters on Johnson Street – with shifts from 10 a.m.-noon, noon-2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., 5 p.m to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
